Reporting to:          Hotel Services Manager
Location:                  Exeter, Devon
Hours:                       Full time, 40 hours per week
Salary:                       Hourly Rate £9.14 + 25% at weekends

Purpose of the role.

To assist the Hotel Services Manager to ensure the service experienced by our residents is exceptional, and meets our 5-star service standards.

Key responsibilities of the role

  • Work closely with all departments to ensure all guests receive excellent service. To clean the residents’ rooms, bathrooms, communal bathrooms and toilets and all public areas in the home to the standards set out in the cleaning schedules.
  • Ensure schedules for cleaning, including spring cleaning, are maintained in accordance with the cleaning schedules.
  • Manage the company’s resources efficiently, to minimize loss and prevent wastage of supplies.
  • Operate vacuum cleaners, floor polishers, carpet shampooers etc. safely and for their designed use. Ensure equipment is maintained and stored properly. Ensure that the utility and storage rooms are clean and in an orderly condition.
  • Sweep, scrub, wax and polish floors as appropriate. Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture and curtains. Dust and polish furniture and equipment.
  • Wash woodwork, windows, door panels and sills. Clean toilets, baths, sinks and hand basins.
  • Make sure the housekeeping trolley is clean, tidy and well stocked with all items and equipment required to clean the home.
  • Report all maintenance and safety hazards and withdraw faulty equipment from use immediately.
  • Apply cleaning substances in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, taking all necessary safety precautions. Ensure adequate stocks are available and secure stock at all times.
  • Empty rubbish bins regularly and transport rubbish to the disposal area.
  • Ensure statutory and company requirements in terms of Health and Safety and COSHH are upheld at all times.
  • Participate in relevant training of inductees.
  • Manage quality surveys for residents in conjunction with the Hotel Services Manager.
  • Complete and maintain required records. Raising purchase orders where required and working closely with administration team to ensure smooth process.
  • To take direction from the hotel services manager in training new housekeepers to ensure company operational standards are met.
  • To check and ensure everywhere is set to our 5-star standard.
  • Taking responsibility that all housekeepers are completing daily task sheets and cleaning rota.
  • Oversee delivery of CLH and deliver to relevant departments.
  • Assist the Hotel Services Manager with the stocktake of bedroom and table linen and place orders requested by the Hotel services manager to ensure an adequate supply.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained and stored properly and liaise with Hotel services manager informing when items need servicing or replacement.
  • Ensure that the utility and storage rooms are in orderly condition.
  • Oversee laundry tagging system.
  • Ensure cleaning substances are used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and staff are taking all the necessary safety precautions.
  • Sample check rooms and the quality of personal laundry & linen to include storing of residents clothing.

Person specification:
Essential experience:

  • Knowledge of maintaining a clean, tidy, safe and hygienic environment.
  • Ability to supervise and lead others.
  • Experience of domestic or cleaning work.
  • Experience of using cleaning substances in accordance to instructions.
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment which includes: Vacuum cleaners, floor polishers and carpet shampoo machines.

Desirable experience:

  • Knowledge of working in a nursing home/residential home environment.
